FAQ

Summary

What does this unit converter do?

The tool converts values between length, mass, temperature, area, volume, time, and speed units with real-time updates.

How is the conversion calculated?

Each category uses the relevant conversion relationships. The input value is converted to the target unit.

Does temperature work the same way as other categories?

Not quite. While many categories use linear scale factors, temperature requires specific conversion formulas for Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin.

Why can the result contain decimal places?

Some units do not have an integer equivalence, so conversion can produce decimals. The display is limited to up to six places; for critical measurements, preserve the precision needed in the original calculation.

Who it is for

Convert measurements without looking up an equivalence table

The converter is for students, cooks, travelers, and professionals who receive measurements in another system, such as inches, pounds, or gallons.

  • Convert length, mass, area, volume, time, and speed.
  • Switch temperatures between Celsius, Fahrenheit, and Kelvin.
  • Compare metric and imperial units.
Instructions

How to convert

  1. 1. Choose the measurement category.
  2. 2. Enter the value.
  3. 3. Choose the source and target units.
  4. 4. Read the result and copy it if needed.
How it works

Fixed factors for most measurements

For length, mass, area, volume, time, and speed, the value is converted by a fixed factor. Temperature uses its own formulas, because the scales do not share the same zero.

Factor

1 inch = 2.54 cm; 1 pound = 453.59237 g.

These are exact definitions used by the tool.

Temperature

°F = °C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32.

Kelvin = °C + 273.15.

Decimal places

The display shows up to six decimal places.

For critical measurements, keep the precision your context requires.

Verifiable example

25 °C in Fahrenheit

In the temperature category, convert from Celsius to Fahrenheit.

Input
25 °C
Calculation
25 × 9 ÷ 5 + 32
Result
77 °F

In length, 5 km become 5,000 m with the factor 1,000.

Limits

Available categories and units

The converter covers the most common everyday units.

  • There is no conversion between different categories, such as volume to mass.
  • The gallon available is the US gallon, which differs from the imperial gallon.
  • Kitchen measures such as cups and spoons are not on the list.
