Encode and decode Base64 with support for accents and emojis

Switch between encoding and decoding, follow the result automatically, and copy the output for integrations, configuration files, and tests.

Works with plain text, accents, emojis, and other Unicode characters.

Type or paste a value to transform.

The result will appear here once the input is valid.

Who it is for

Convert text to Base64 and back, with accents preserved

The transformer is for anyone who handles Base64-encoded data: developers inspecting headers and payloads, students, and people who need to check a value quickly.

  • Encode text before placing it in a field that requires Base64.
  • Decode a received value to read the original content.
  • Check whether a Base64 value is complete and well formed.
Instructions

How to use it

  1. 1. Choose the mode: encode or decode.
  2. 2. Type or paste the value into the input field.
  3. 3. Read the result, updated on every change.
  4. 4. Copy the output and use it in the target system.
How it works

Base64 is a representation, not protection

Base64 turns bytes into a 64-character alphabet that can travel as text. Anyone can decode the value.

UTF-8 encoding

Text is converted to UTF-8 bytes before encoding.

That is why accents and emojis come back intact when decoding.

Whitespace ignored when decoding

Line breaks and spaces are removed before decoding.

This helps with values copied from emails or files split across lines.

Standard alphabet

The tool uses the standard alphabet, with + and /.

The = padding at the end is part of the result.

Verifiable example

Encoding Hello, world

In encode mode, the phrase below always produces the same result. In decode mode, the reverse path returns the original phrase.

Text
Hello, world
Base64
SGVsbG8sIHdvcmxk

Characters outside basic ASCII, such as accented letters, take more than one byte in UTF-8 and make the result longer.

Limits

What the tool does not do

The transformer works with typed or pasted text.

  • The Base64URL variant, which uses - and _, is not accepted when decoding; replace those characters with + and / first.
  • Files and images are not converted.
  • Base64 that represents binary data, rather than text, may show unreadable characters.
Caution

Base64 does not hide secrets

A token or password in Base64 is still exposed. Do not use encoding as a way to protect data.
